For the first time, SROM is offering an extended wilderness ministry experience specifically designed for teenage girls. Young women will be given the opportunity challenge themselves and grow with a highly unique experience. SROM believes that in this present age, the teenage life is saturated with technology and bombarded with post-modernity. These cultural pressures have made it increasingly difficult to maneuver through adolescence. Not only has culture abandoned this current generation, but the message and mantra from the spirit of this age is a disservice to young women. There is an absence of godly female role models and the constant presence of unrealistic expectations. It is our goal that through challenge and mentorship on a 20 day and 20 night wilderness experience, girls allow the truths of Christ to ring louder than the pressures, disappointments, and fears that they face on a daily basis.
SROM is passionate for young women to be built up and mentored in a physically and emotionally safe environment; to be encouraged and gain confidence in truth. Through 20 days in the wilderness, these young women will gain that confidence and have an opportunity to see themselves as individuals and leaders. They will participate in outdoor and adventure activities as a team and community. Yet these activities are not the focus, merely the venue for growth, challenge and refinement. Spiritual growth will come as the group discusses the lessons learned while participating and overcoming in each activity. The arc between each lesson learned and the practical application to life becomes a catalyst for revelation and change. The lessons learned will lead to our identity in Christ, confidence, relationships with family and peers, and leadership.
