Full Time Staff
In addition to our many volunteers and seasonal instructor staff, SROM has eight full time employees. Each person is an integral and valuable part of the SROM family. SROM is grateful to the Lord for calling each person to give of their time, energy, talents, passion, and gifts.
SROM believes the Lord calls each person to the work that is ongoing here at SROM. To serve on the board, as summer staff, or full time staff is a vocational calling, not something contrived by man or based on personality or personal charisma. The Lord calls and we serve.
Andrew Arnold
Executive Director
BA - Wabash College
Andrew is married to Jessica and they have three children: Isabel Catherine, Sara Marie, and Andrew Flynn. Andrew grew up in the SROM family and culture. As a young boy he began to climb with his father, uncle, and cousins. Growing up in the mountains was the norm for Andrew. His life was changed by the grace of Jesus Christ and the love of the Father on a mountain top during a SROM course in the summer of 1999. Since that encounter Andrew has been passionate and convinced that SROM is a part of the Kingdom of God to change, reach, touch, and equip individuals. Andrew joined the ministry in 1999 as full time staff to help his father, Drew Arnold, who founded SROM. In 2003 Andrew was appointed Executive Director.
Jessie Cruickshank
Program Director
BS and BA - University of Wyoming
Jessie is a Wyoming native who has grown up among the rocks and snow couloirs. She started with SROM in 2000 as an instructor and became the Program Director in 2003. Jessie is a graduate of the University of Wyoming and is a certified teacher. Bob Cruickshank married into the SROM family in 2003 and continues to serve as SROM's volunteer IT advisor, and website administrator. They both work for SROM because they love what SROM does in the life of every individual who attends a course. They believe in God's purpose for SROM and that their calling lies in serving Him there.
Josh Horak
40/40 Director
BA - Colorado State University
Josh has been working with SROM since 2001. He instructed during the summers for SROM while participating in Colorado State University track and field as a pole-vaulter. He graduated from CSU in 2004 and joined the full time staff as the 40/40 Director in 2005. Josh's passion for Jesus takes him around the region teaching and preaching at youth groups, churches, and local Bible studies. He has also been known to lead worship on the guitar now and again. Josh works for SROM because of "the lasting impact it has on youth and adults by leading them into a place where they can experience the heart of the Father and His affection for them." He is excited about raising up leaders who know how important it is for their true identity to always be sons of God. Josh loves to cheer people on to love Jesus by adjusting their lives according to the Kingdom of God, where every area of life is under Jesus’ rule and reign. Josh’s free time consists of long hard rock routes, navigating crazy fun creeks in his kayak, lung bursting runs, or a good dose of any kind of adventure. He and his wife Amy are always thinking of new ways to serve Jesus and see his Kingdom established in the nations. Josh feels “so honored to be married to Amy. She is a woman of God that runs hard, inspires me to run hard, and knows her priorities - Jesus.”
Jim Doenges
Assistant Program Director
BS and MS - University of Bridgeport
Jim has spent years of his life in tents and summited high peaks on four continents, but most importantly he gave his life to Christ on Mt. Hood in 1996. Jim was a consulting scientist for 20 years before working as a congregational outdoor minister and as a trip leader on short-term missions to mountainous areas of the world. He is a Licensed Minister, and a certified LNT Master Educator and Avalanche Professional. Jim served with SROM as a volunteer in 2004, and as a 40/40 instructor in 2005. He has seen the powerful ways God uses the wilderness classrooms of SROM courses for spiritual transformation and leadership development. He wants to reach the lost and equip the saints, so he's passionate about the mission of SROM. He became the Assistant Program Director in the winter of 2009 to help give hands and feet to the mission. Jim is blessed by his wife Teresa.
Austin Holler
Multimedia Designer
Current Student - Central New Mexico Community College
Austin has always had an inherent love for the outdoors, and especially for climbing. Austin attributes his climbing abilities to God since, as he sees it, anyone who can climb before they can walk must have a gift from God. Austin started working for SROM as an instructor in 2005. He joined the full time staff in the fall of 2008 as the Multimedia Designer. Austin loves every aspect of working at SROM. He is driven to work at SROM because he has experienced firsthand and seen in many students the life changing effect of wilderness ministry.
Jay Johnson
Assistant 40/40 Director
BS - Columbia International University
Jay is a rock climber and an outdoorsman that has a passion for knowing Christ intimately and then being a part of drawing others into a living breathing relationship with Him. Jay is a native of Georgia and grew up hiking and riding trails in the woods near his house. There he developed a passion for seeking God in the outdoors and very often took long hikes with the Lord. Jay feels that one of his main roles at SROM is to be a mentor and a Godly male figure in young people’s lives. He joined the full time staff in the summer of 2009 after working as a 40/40 instructor.
Rachel Telian
Program Assistant
BA - Indiana University
Rachel grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan where there is plenty of snow but no mountains. She fell in love with the outdoors on a backpacking trip in North Carolina when she was 15. It was in the rawness and beauty of those mountains that God began to soften her heart. Two days after finishing college in 2007, she ventured west to join SROM as an instructor. She worked for three summers as an instructor before joining the full time staff in the fall of 2009 as the 20/20 Teen Girls Coordinator. Her favorite thing about working at SROM is the family atmosphere and the pursuit of Christ in all things. Rachel believes in the outdoors as an avenue to meet with God and experience his grace and truth, and is privileged to lead young people into that experience.
